My paintings have evolved over the years from a very detailed, busy look to a thoughtful design. A painting should have large areas of solid color or silence to counterbalance a the detailed activity. Many small sketch’s , about two by two inches are drawn very quickly .Then are developed more fully with reference photo’s into oil paintings.
Most of my new ideas are from dreams and meditations .A visual language of symbolic images creates a unique vision of reality (sometimes named style.) A series of ten to twelve paintings will develop the necessary depth to understand each idea. For example ,the series of night landscapes with black outlines and dark blue skys.There is also a series of the ocean and conch shells and a group of abstract paintings with geometric forms on top freeform shapes.. These symbols and more are being explored within each painting/series.
Infleunced intellectually by the philosphy of classic Greek and Indian cultures, such as the ancient Greek idea of the beauty leading to the good.Especially the belief in reincarnation as the major machination behind the evolution of mankind’s physical and spiritual evolution. Slowly we are evolving into a more refined outlook , great masters like DaVinci .Vermeer , Monet view the world in such a beautiful way they are an inspiration to everybody experience life in a uplifting way.
Joseph Alexander was born and raised in Michigan . He attended College at “The Center for Creative Studies “. studying oil painting and sculpture. He has a degree in Architecture from Lawerence Institute of Technology. and is also a musican / guitar player. He now resides in Reno ,Nevada and is part owner of Alexandratros Gallery .He won Best of Show in 1985 at the annual Macomb Arts Council show . Collecters in New York , England , Michigan ,Canada have purchased his art.
