Sonnie Imes
At the tender age of 64, Sonnie began studying oil painting. She is the Grandma Moses of the Reno art scene!! Oil painting started out as a challenge, became a passion and is now a vocation.
Sonnie studied oil painting at the Western Nevada Community College. She has taken various workshops in the area and in Europe. She studied with Lesley Rich in Venice in October 2004. European architecture is reflected in her paintings.
She received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Nevada Arts Council. She has exhibited in Truckee, and South Lake Tahoe in California, and in Reno, Minden, Carson City, Gardnerville, and Genoa.
Sonnie has also written and published 12 Cookbooks and Travel Guides. She has been writing about food, people, and places since 1974, exploring the best cuisines around the world. She has taught cooking at the Sierra Nevada College and produced and directed a PBS television show called "The Tastes of Tahoe"
Sonnie is now also creating custom gemstone jewelry.
