Ruth Hilts

Ruth HiltsAs a native Nevadan, Ruth Hilts’ work in several media over the years has reflected her love of the high desert country. She has incorporated in her abstract works some of the pictographs, petroglyphs or chiseled mementos left by travelers in the Western desert canyons over the centuries. She was noted for her “Nevada Earth” series, in which she made pigments from the soils, rocks and minerals of the Nevada desert.

Her work has been included in national and regional juried and invitational shows: and, is in corporate and private collections nationwide and in Canada. Two of her paintings are in the permanent collections of the Nevada Museum of Art in Reno.

In 1995, she was honored with the Rosemary McMillan Grant for Excellence by the Sierra Arts Foundation. She is a charter member of the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington, D.C. which has a file of her accomplishments in its Research Library. Ruth was listed in the 20th edition of Who’s Who of American Women and in all of subsequent editions.

In 2000, her mixed media artwork “Eureka-Like a Phoenix”, was acquired for the permanent collection of the Eureka Opera House.
In 2007, two of her paintings were placed at Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno, Nevada.
